Weight loss programs are restrictive programs. Restriction is applied from various angles\u2014when to eat, foods to avoid, caloric limits, rules to follow. No matter the approach, weight loss programs are built on rules for restriction.<\/p>

Behavior analysis is much like the opposite of restriction. Its tools for assessment provide a contextual understanding of problems. Change programs begin with the identification of a strength, and build on that. Valerie A. Evans, Ph.D. is a licensed and board certified behavior analyst and small business owner. Her career interest is to improve the application of behavior analysis by helping to bridge the gap between research and practice. Her most proud professional accomplishment has been providing a searchable article library to other behavior analysts.<\/p>

While being a behavior analyst is a big part of Valerie\u2019s identity, she feels most connected to her condition as a vulnerable person. Valerie\u2019s experiences and struggles in everyday life have inspired her to work toward making applications of behavior analysis accessible to others who are interested in a different way of experiencing problems and solutions.<\/p>
